The 30th International Mushaira, organized by Sakinan-e-Shahr-e-Quaid, brought together renowned poets from Pakistan and abroad at the Expo Centre on Sunday.
The event was presided over by poet and critic Prof Sahar Ansari. It offered a mix of humor, poignant reflections, and commentary on current affairs through poetry.
The Mushaira attracted a large crowd, including many women and young attendees, contributing to its success. Famous poets such as Iftikhar Arif, Abbas Tabish, Anwar Shoor, Dr Pirzada Qasim, and Zafar Sabir captivated the audience with their performances. From abroad, poet Khalid Irfan, who traveled from the United States, received a warm reception for his witty poems.
Indian poet Vijay Tiwari, the only representative from India, also participated. His recitations were well received, and he highlighted the role of poetry in bridging the gap between Pakistan and India, stressing that such gatherings could strengthen cultural ties.
The event was also attended by prominent political figures, including Khalid Maqbool, Farooq Sattar, Aminul Haq, Khwaja Izhar-ul-Hasan, and Nehal Hashmi.
Farooq Sattar, a key figure from MQM-Pakistan, reflected on the growing popularity of the International Mushaira, which has flourished over the past three decades. Nehal Hashmi praised Mushairas as essential elements of culture and civilization.
Chief organizer Mehmood Ahmed Khan reiterated Sakinan-e-Shahr-e-Quaid’s commitment to hosting international Mushairas, celebrating the ongoing significance and beauty of poetry.
