Bloomington Poetry Slam

The Bloomington Poetry Slam will host its monthly event with an open mic starting at 8:30 PM, followed by the poetry slam at 9:00 PM. Music will play throughout the evening, setting the tone for a night of powerful performances.

This month’s featured poet is the returning artist Too Black. A poet, scholar, organizer, and filmmaker, Too Black is known for blending sharp analysis with biting sarcasm. He has headlined renowned stages such as the historic Nuyorican Poets Café in New York City, Princeton University, and the Johannesburg Theater in South Africa.

Too Black is the co-author of Laundering Black Rage: The Washing of Black Death, People, Property, and Profits. His writing has been featured in several online publications, including Black Agenda Report, Left Voice, Blavity, and Hood Communist.

In addition to his work as a poet, Too Black is the host of the Black Myths Podcast, which debunks harmful stereotypes about Black people. He also produced The Last Dope Intellectual and is actively involved in the Defense Committee to Free the Pendleton 2. This committee advocates for the freedom of Indiana political prisoners John “Balagoon” Cole and Christopher “Naeem” Trotter. Too Black is also the co-director of the documentary The Pendleton 2: They Stood Up.
