The Poetry Salon at Abbot Public Library will host an event featuring the poetry of Mark Doty on Thursday, December 19. Since the publication of his first poetry collection, Turtle, Swan, in 1987, Mark Doty has become one of America’s most celebrated poets. He has received numerous awards, including prestigious fellowships and grants, and is also known for his prose writing.
Doty believes that poetry stands apart from other dominant art forms, such as film and architecture. He explains, “Poems are always made alone, somewhere out on the edge of things, and if they succeed they are saturated with the texture of the uniquely felt life.”
Join Claire Keyes, Professor Emerita at Salem State University, for a discussion of Mark Doty’s work at Abbot Public Library in Marblehead.
