The Richmond Public Library will join a statewide celebration of Latino poetry with a special event on February 20 at 6 p.m. The conversation will explore the theme “First and Second Homes,” discussing the experience of Latino poets living in the U.S. while maintaining strong ties to their homelands.
Books related to the theme will be available for pickup starting on January 23.
This event is part of a broader initiative called “Latino Poetry: Places We Call Home,” supported by The Center for the Book, N.H. Humanities, the University of New Hampshire, and a grant from the Library of America. The project, which runs from 2024 to 2025, highlights the rich legacy of Latino poetry.
The celebration will center on the 2024 “Latino Poetry: The Library of America Anthology,” edited by Rigoberto González. Libraries across the state will host conversations about the anthology’s poems, with sets of the book provided for their programs.
