The Kabir Festival concluded on Sunday with a captivating play, Sufi songs, and poetry performances. The three-day event was organized by Dastak, the Sant Kabir Academy, and the UP Culture Department at the UP Sangeet Natak Akademi.
The highlight of the final day was the play Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, based on Russian playwright Aleksei Arbuzov’s Old World. The play was adapted by Rakesh Veda and directed by Suresh Bharadwaj. It focused on Dr. Bhullar and his patient, Sarita, an actress. As they meet and discuss their issues, they argue, agree, and ultimately understand each other.
Indian Idol contestant Kuldeep mesmerized the audience with his Sufi songs, including Kali Kali Zulfon Ke Phande Na Daalo, Na Chhedo Hamein, Hum Sataye Hue Hain, and Aafreen Aafreen. He also performed Kabir’s kalaams such as Saadho Dekho Jag Baurana and Man Laaga Mera Yaar Fakiri Mein.
A poetic gathering titled Mushsira Muhabbat Ka featured recitations by poets Shahbaz Talib, Jaani Lakhanvi, Aqib Haider, Abhishreshtha Tiwari, Deepak Kabir, Syed Moin Alvi, Abdullah Sadiq, and Mahinder Pal.
The festival ended with a beautiful lantern-lighting ceremony.
