Poetry Reading with Winifred Hughes and Lynn Levin at Princeton Makes

Princeton Makes, a local artist cooperative, and Ragged Sky Press, a poetry publisher, will present the Second Sunday Poetry Reading on December 8, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Princeton Makes store in the Princeton Shopping Center. Poets Winifred Hughes and Lynn Levin will read poetry with a music theme, followed by an open mic session for up to 10 audience members who wish to share their original works.

Lynn Levin is a poet, writer, and adjunct professor of English at Drexel University. She has been praised as one of the “most poignantly witty voices of our time” by Bucks County Community College. Levin is the author of nine books, including the short story collection House Parties (Spuyten Duyvil, 2023), named one of the best books of the summer by Philadelphia Magazine. Her poetry collections include The Minor Virtues (Ragged Sky, 2020) and Miss Plastique (Ragged Sky, 2013). Her work has been published in numerous journals, including Boulevard, Ploughshares, Smartish Pace, Scientific American, and The Saturday Evening Post.

Winifred Hughes is the author of The Village of New Ghosts, which won the 2024 Henry Morgenthau III Poetry Award from Passager Books. She has also published two chapbooks: Frost Flowers and Nine-Bend Bridge. Hughes’ poems have appeared in Poetry, Poetry Northwest, Atlanta Review, and International Poetry Review. Her poem “The Scene Without” won the 2023 Fish Anthology poetry competition, judged by Billy Collins. Hughes is a long-time member of the U.S. 1 Poets’ Cooperative and a former managing editor of U.S. 1 Worksheets.

Princeton Makes is a cooperative of 37 local artists working in diverse media, including painting, sculpture, textiles, and jewelry. Visitors can purchase a variety of art, such as large paintings, prints, custom greeting cards, stained glass pieces, and unique jewelry designs.

Ragged Sky Press is a small, selective cooperative press that focuses on working closely with authors. They emphasize mature voices, overlooked poets, and women’s perspectives. Authors retain copyright and benefit from Ragged Sky’s professional support throughout the editing, production, and design processes.
