Bangalow Bush Poets Return for Annual Show

the Bangalow Show

The popular bush poetry event is back at the Bangalow Show, scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 16.

Co-organizer Sue Franklin promises an exciting display of creativity and literary talent.

Poets of all backgrounds are welcome to participate with just one simple rule: create and perform a poem that lasts no more than three minutes,” Franklin said. “This year’s theme is ‘chook,’ and the poem must include the word. You don’t have to use the full three minutes—sometimes, short and punchy is more effective.”

The event, sponsored by The Bangalow Herald, gives poets the chance to showcase their skills and compete for a $100 first prize, along with an exclusive winner’s sash.

Local poet and MC Angus Thurgate will return to host the event, joined by a panel of judges who will evaluate the performances based on audience engagement and reactions.

The competition will take place at the Village Green, just past the Moller Pavilion. Be there at 11 a.m. (or slightly earlier) on Saturday, November 16.
