The Salida SteamPlant will host Feast of Words: Wintertide, a live poetry event, on Sunday, December 15, starting at 6:30 p.m. The event will feature four local and regional poets.
After the performances, the open mic will be open to all. Those wishing to participate should bring one poem, limited to one page, to ensure timely presentations. Open mic sign-ups will begin at 6:15 p.m.
Books by the featured poets and from Lithic Press will be available for purchase. The SteamPlant will offer a cash bar, and donations are welcome. The event is free to attend.
Featured Poets
Wendy Videlock, the poet laureate for Western Colorado, will be one of the featured poets. She lives in Palisade and has been published in various newspapers, magazines, and books. She describes poetry and meter as “just another of the many natural pulsings of the earth.”
Danny Rosen, the founder of regional poetry publisher Lithic Press, will also perform. Rosen, who resides in Fruita, draws inspiration from his background in geology, astronomy, and science education. He published Primate Poems in 2016, eight years after founding Lithic Press in 2008.
Local Salida poets Jan Ohmstede and Elizabeth Lewis will complete the lineup of featured performers.
The event will take place at the Salida SteamPlant, located at 220 West Sackett Avenue. For more details, contact the SteamPlant at 719-530-0933, or event organizer Craig Nielson at 719-221-2200.
