Wenshu Wang, a sophomore at Herricks High School, has won the 2025 YoungArts Award with Distinction in Writing. This honor recognizes exceptional young artists who demonstrate outstanding technique, creativity, and commitment to their craft.
Wenshu is a member of the Herricks High School English Scholars Program and has worked closely with Alan Semerdjian, the Nassau County Poet Laureate and her English and poetry teacher.
“Wenshu is an exceptionally talented writer,” said Semerdjian. “Her portfolio of poems is sophisticated and inventive, showing why she truly deserves this award. Her eloquence, vision, and skill are remarkable for someone her age, and it has been a pleasure to help refine her talents.”
The award includes an invitation to National YoungArts Week, a week-long arts residency in Miami, Florida. During the event, winners collaborate with peers, work with internationally recognized artists, and build lasting connections.
YoungArts Award winners are also eligible for cash prizes of up to $10,000 and may be considered for nomination to the U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts Program.
