Winners of Nabati Poetry Contest

The Minister of Culture, H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani, awarded the winners of a Nabati poetry contest on Monday.

The contest, organized by the Ministry of Culture, took place at Darb Al Saai in Umm Salal Mohammed. It spanned a period of nine months. The first-place prize of QR 1 million was awarded to Kuwaiti poet Sultan bin Bandar Al Ajmi. The eight other finalists each received QR 100,000, bringing the total prize pool to QR 1.8 million.

The nine finalists were selected from earlier rounds of the competition and presented poems based on the theme “Participation in Qatar National Day Celebrations.”

In his speech, Shabeeb bin Arar Al Nuaimi, Director of the Qatar Poetry Centre, noted that the competition highlighted outstanding creativity and attracted hundreds of poets from across generations and countries. He emphasized that the poets’ works reflected the region’s core values, including loyalty, sincerity, and ethics, through their powerful verses.

Al Nuaimi also praised the talent of the finalists, stating that the competition was not just a celebration of poetry but also a platform for promoting moral values and contributing to community development.
