The Sharjah Award for Arabic Poetry Criticism has announced the winners of its fourth edition, themed “The Convergence of Literary Genres in Contemporary Arabic Poetry.” The award, organized by the Sharjah Department of Culture, aims to support Arabic poetry and encourage critical analysis within the literary field.
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the award recognized three researchers for their outstanding contributions to Arabic poetry criticism.
Fathi bin Belkacem Nasri from Tunisia claimed first place with his research titled “Autobiographies in Contemporary Arabic Poetry.” Dr. Ahmed Jarallah Yassin from Iraq secured second place for his study, “The Convergence of Literary Genres in Contemporary Arabic Poetry.” Ibrahim Al Karawi from Morocco earned third place with his research, “The Poetics of the Trans-Genre Text: From the Obsession with Authenticity to the Question of Boundaries (Towards a Generalised Poetics).”
Professor Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qasir, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department and Secretary-General of the award, highlighted the award’s ongoing success since its establishment in 2020. Al Qasir expressed appreciation for the patronage of Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, noting that the award has fostered a deeper, comprehensive critical analysis of Arabic poetry and brought forward fresh perspectives on key issues.
Al Qasir also pointed out that the number of participants in the award continues to grow, with over 60 research papers submitted from countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Jordan, Tunisia, Yemen, Sudan, and Mauritania. This diverse participation underscores the significance of the award in the Arab literary community.
The award offers financial rewards to the top three winners, with first place receiving AED 100,000, second place receiving AED 75,000, and third place receiving AED 50,000.
