Rhyme and Chatt Interactive Poetry Organization is set to kick off Stretch Your Mind, a new program that combines yoga and poetry. The sessions will begin on January 16 and will be held before the popular Fresh Out the Shoebox open-mic poetry event.
Stretch Your Mind is designed for yoga beginners and those who spend long hours at a desk. Yoga instructor Kate Landers will guide participants through exercises that target areas often tense from typing, including the neck, shoulders, lower back, wrists, and hips.
All exercises will be done in a chair or standing with optional table support—no floorwork or mats required. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable, stretchy clothing.
Each session will feature two 20-minute yoga practices, with a poetry writing session in between. Each month, a different poet will lead writing prompts to inspire creativity. Stretch Your Mind will run from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by the Fresh Out the Shoebox open-mic event from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The event will take place monthly on the third Thursday of each month, starting in January. It will be held on the 5th floor of the Edney Building, located at 1100 Market St. The event is free, family-friendly, and open to the community.
