Sarah Arvio

Frenchtown Bookshop will host award-winning poet and translator Sarah Arvio on February 7, where she will read from her latest collection, Cry Back My Sea, described as “a performance in the language of heartbreak and longing” by the Shining Rock Poetry Anthology. She will also read from Poet in Spain, her acclaimed translations of Federico García Lorca’s poems, which Colm Tóibín has called “inspired.”

Arvio’s poems have appeared in Best American Poetry, Best American Erotic Poetry, The New Yorker, Boston Review, and in four collections published by Knopf/Random House. She has received the Rome Prize, Guggenheim Fellowship, and National Foundation for the Arts Fellowship. Arvio has also taught poetry at Princeton University, Columbia University, and the School for the Arts. Previously, she worked as a translator for the United Nations in New York and Switzerland.

The event is free and open to the public. Arvio will read from her poetry and translations, followed by an interview with Poetry Curator Helen O’Connor.
